2010-10-17PM: Introduce library for device-specific OPPs (v7)Nishanth Menon
SoCs have a standard set of tuples consisting of frequency and voltage pairs that the device will support per voltage domain. These are called Operating Performance Points or OPPs. The actual definitions of OPP varies over silicon versions. For a specific domain, we can have a set of {frequency, voltage} pairs. As the kernel boots and more information is available, a default set of these are activated based on the precise nature of device. Further on operation, based on conditions prevailing in the system (such as temperature), some OPP availability may be temporarily controlled by the SoC frameworks. To implement an OPP, some sort of power management support is necessary hence this library depends on CONFIG_PM. Contributions include: Sanjeev Premi for the initial concept: http://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/50998/ Kevin Hilman for converting original design to device-based. Kevin Hilman and Paul Walmsey for cleaning up many of the function abstractions, improvements and data structure handling. Romit Dasgupta for using enums instead of opp pointers. Thara Gopinath, Eduardo Valentin and Vishwanath BS for fixes and cleanups. Linus Walleij for recommending this layer be made generic for usage in other architectures beyond OMAP and ARM. Mark Brown, Andrew Morton, Rafael J. Wysocki, Paul E. McKenney for valuable improvements. 2010-10-17PM: Add sysfs attr for rechecking dev hash from PM traceJames Hogan
If the device which fails to resume is part of a loadable kernel module it won't be checked at startup against the magic number stored in the RTC. Add a read-only sysfs attribute /sys/power/pm_trace_dev_match which contains a list of newline separated devices (usually just the one) which currently match the last magic number. This allows the device which is failing to resume to be found after the modules are loaded again. Signed-off-by: James Hogan <james@albanarts.com> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rjw@sisk.pl>
2010-10-17PM / Runtime: Implement autosuspend supportAlan Stern
This patch (as1427) implements the "autosuspend" facility for runtime PM. A few new fields are added to the dev_pm_info structure and several new PM helper functions are defined, for telling the PM core whether or not a device uses autosuspend, for setting the autosuspend delay, and for marking periods of device activity. Drivers that do not want to use autosuspend can continue using the same helper functions as before; their behavior will not change. In addition, drivers supporting autosuspend can also call the old helper functions to get the old behavior. The details are all explained in Documentation/power/runtime_pm.txt and Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-devices-power. Signed-off-by: Alan Stern <stern@rowland.harvard.edu> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rjw@sisk.pl>
2010-10-17PM / Runtime: Add no_callbacks flagAlan Stern
Some devices, such as USB interfaces, cannot be power-managed independently of their parents, i.e., they cannot be put in low power while the parent remains at full power. This patch (as1425) creates a new "no_callbacks" flag, which tells the PM core not to invoke the runtime-PM callback routines for the such devices but instead to assume that the callbacks always succeed. In addition, the non-debugging runtime-PM sysfs attributes for the devices are removed, since they are pretty much meaningless. The advantage of this scheme comes not so much from avoiding the callbacks themselves, but rather from the fact that without the need for a process context in which to run the callbacks, more work can be done in interrupt context. 2010-10-17PM / Wakeup: Introduce wakeup source objects and event statistics (v3)Rafael J. Wysocki
Introduce struct wakeup_source for representing system wakeup sources within the kernel and for collecting statistics related to them. Make the recently introduced helper functions pm_wakeup_event(), pm_stay_awake() and pm_relax() use struct wakeup_source objects internally, so that wakeup statistics associated with wakeup devices can be collected and reported in a consistent way (the definition of pm_relax() is changed, which is harmless, because this function is not called directly by anyone yet). Introduce new wakeup-related sysfs device attributes in /sys/devices/.../power for reporting the device wakeup statistics. Change the global wakeup events counters event_count and events_in_progress into atomic variables, so that it is not necessary to acquire a global spinlock in pm_wakeup_event(), pm_stay_awake() and pm_relax(), which should allow us to avoid lock contention in these functions on SMP systems with many wakeup devices. 2010-10-17PM / Hibernate: Make default image size depend on total RAM sizeRafael J. Wysocki
The default hibernation image size is currently hard coded and euqal to 500 MB, which is not a reasonable default on many contemporary systems. Make it equal 2/5 of the total RAM size (this is slightly below the maximum, i.e. 1/2 of the total RAM size, and seems to be generally suitable). Signed-off-by: Rafael J. 2010-10-11ocfs2: Add a mount option "coherency=*" to handle cluster coherency for ↵Tristan Ye
O_DIRECT writes. Currently, the default behavior of O_DIRECT writes was allowing concurrent writing among nodes to the same file, with no cluster coherency guaranteed (no EX lock held). This can leave stale data in the cache for buffered reads on other nodes. The new mount option introduce a chance to choose two different behaviors for O_DIRECT writes: * coherency=full, as the default value, will disallow concurrent O_DIRECT writes by taking EX locks. * coherency=buffered, allow concurrent O_DIRECT writes without EX lock among nodes, which gains high performance at risk of getting stale data on other nodes. 2010-09-29pcmcia: use autoconfiguration feature for ioports and iomemDominik Brodowski
When CONF_AUTO_SET_IO or CONF_AUTO_SET_IOMEM are set, the corresponding fields in struct pcmcia_device *p_dev->resource[0,1,2] are set accordinly. Drivers wishing to override certain settings may do so in the callback function, but they no longer need to parse the CIS entries stored in cistpl_cftable_entry_t themselves. 2010-09-29pcmcia: convert pcmcia_request_configuration to pcmcia_enable_deviceDominik Brodowski
pcmcia_enable_device() now replaces pcmcia_request_configuration(). Instead of config_req_t, all necessary flags are either passed as a parameter to pcmcia_enable_device(), or (in rare circumstances) set in struct pcmcia_device -> flags. With the last remaining user of include/pcmcia/cs.h gone, remove all references. 2010-09-29pcmcia: do not use win_req_t when calling pcmcia_request_window()Dominik Brodowski
Instead of win_req_t, drivers are now requested to fill out struct pcmcia_device *p_dev->resource[2,3,4,5] for up to four iomem ranges. After a call to pcmcia_request_window(), the windows found there are reserved and may be used until pcmcia_release_window() is called. 2010-09-23rcu: Add tracing data to support queueing modelsPaul E. McKenney
The current tracing data is not sufficient to deduce the average time that a callback spends waiting for a grace period to end. Add three per-CPU counters recording the number of callbacks invoked (ci), the number of callbacks orphaned (co), and the number of callbacks adopted (ca). Given the existing callback queue length (ql), the average wait time in absence of CPU hotplug operations is ql/ci. The units of wait time will be in terms of the duration over which ci was measured. In the presence of CPU hotplug operations, there is room for argument, but ql/(ci-co+ca) won't steer you too far wrong. Also fixes a typo called out by Lucas De Marchi <lucas.de.marchi@gmail.com>. 2010-09-16drm: use noop_llseekArnd Bergmann
The drm device drivers currently allow seeking on the character device but never care about the actual file position. When we change the default llseek operation to be no_llseek, calling llseek on a drm device would return an error condition, which is an API change. Explicitly setting noop_llseek lets us keep the current API. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Cc: David Airlie <airlied@linux.ie> Cc: dri-devel@lists.freedesktop.org
