The BCM2835 is an ARM SoC from Broadcom. This patch adds very basic support for this SoC. http://www.broadcom.com/products/BCM2835 http://www.raspberrypi.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/BCM2835-ARM-Peripherals.pdf Note that the documentation in the latter .pdf assumes the MMU setup that's used on the "VideoCore" companion processor, and does not document physical peripheral addresses. Subtract 0x5e000000 to obtain the physical addresses. This is accounted for by the ranges property in the /soc node in the device tree. The BCM2835 SoC is used in the Raspberry Pi. This patch also adds a minimal device tree for this board; enough to see some very early kernel boot messages through earlyprintk. However, this patch does not yet provide a useful booting system. http://www.raspberrypi.org/. This patch was extracted from git://github.com/lp0/linux.git branch rpi-split from 3-4 months ago, and significantly stripped down and modified since. Using 'select' in Kconfig is hard, a platform cannot just enable a driver without also making sure that its subsystem is there. Also, there is no actual code dependency between the platform and the gpio leds driver. Without this patch, building without LEDS_CLASS esults in: drivers/built-in.o: In function `create_gpio_led.part.2': governor_userspace.c:(.devinit.text+0x5a58): undefined reference to `led_classdev_register' drivers/built-in.o: In function `gpio_led_remove': governor_userspace.c:(.devexit.text+0x6b8): undefined reference to `led_classdev_unregister' This reverts 8733f53c6 "ARM: ux500: Kconfig: Compile in leds-gpio support for Snowball" that introduced the regression and did not provide a helpful explanation. In order to leave the GPIO LED code still present in normal builds, this also enables the symbol in u8500_defconfig, in addition to the other LED drivers that are already selected there. The CONFIG_DEFAULT_MMAP_MIN_ADDR was set to 65536 in mxs_defconfig, this caused severe breakage of userland applications since the upper limit for ARM is 32768. By default CONFIG_DEFAULT_MMAP_MIN_ADDR is set to 4096 and can also be changed via /proc/sys/vm/mmap_min_addr if needed. Quoting Russell King [1]: "4096 is also fine for ARM too. There's not much point in having defconfigs change it - that would just be pure noise in the config files." the CONFIG_DEFAULT_MMAP_MIN_ADDR can be removed from the defconfig altogether. Pull support for three new arm SoC types from Arnd Bergmann: - The mvebu platform includes Marvell's Armada XP and Armada 370 chips, made by the mvebu business unit inside of Marvell. Since the same group also made the older but similar platforms we call "orion5x", "kirkwood", "mv78xx0" and "dove", we plan to move all of them into the mach-mvebu directory in the future. - socfpga is Altera's platform based on Cortex-A9 cores and a lot of FPGA space. This is similar to the Xilinx zynq platform we already support. The code is particularly clean, which is helped by the fact that the hardware doesn't do much besides the parts that are expected to get added in the FPGA. - The OMAP subarchitecture gains support for the latest generation, the OMAP5 based on the new Cortex-A15 core. This enables the new EXYNOS5 platforms in the defconfig, and enables DT support on EXYNOS4. Other options enabled: USB host, EXT3/4, regulators and tps65090, networking and a few of the common usb ethernet adapters as well as the smsc911x controller used on some boards. I enabled EFI_PARTITION, since it's used on some filesystem images I'm using. I didn't see a need to keep Solaris and BSD partition format still enabled. Finally, framebuffer console, logo and fonts were enabled. Note that enabling some of these options introduces build coverage previously missing, thus introducing a few build errors and warnings for which fixes have been sent out already.
