With PHYS_ADDR_MAX there is now a type safe variant for all bits set. Make use of it. The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. 2018-06-07mm: introduce ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIALLaurent Dufour
Currently the PTE special supports is turned on in per architecture header files. Most of the time, it is defined in arch/*/include/asm/pgtable.h depending or not on some other per architecture static definition. This patch introduce a new configuration variable to manage this directly in the Kconfig files. It would later replace __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL. Here notes for some architecture where the definition of __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is not obvious: arm __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL which is currently defined in arch/arm/include/asm/pgtable-3level.h which is included by arch/arm/include/asm/pgtable.h when CONFIG_ARM_LPAE is set. So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL if ARM_LPAE. powerpc __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is defined in 2 files: - arch/powerpc/include/asm/book3s/64/pgtable.h - arch/powerpc/include/asm/pte-common.h The first one is included if (PPC_BOOK3S & PPC64) while the second is included in all the other cases. So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL all the time. sparc: __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is defined if defined(__sparc__) && defined(__arch64__) which are defined through the compiler in sparc/Makefile if !SPARC32 which I assume to be if SPARC64. So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL if SPARC64 There is no functional change introduced by this patch. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip Pull irq updates from Thomas Gleixner: - Consolidation of softirq pending: The softirq mask and its accessors/mutators have many implementations scattered around many architectures. Most do the same things consisting in a field in a per-cpu struct (often irq_cpustat_t) accessed through per-cpu ops. We can provide instead a generic efficient version that most of them can use. In fact s390 is the only exception because the field is stored in lowcore. - Support for level!?! triggered MSI (ARM) Over the past couple of years, we've seen some SoCs coming up with ways of signalling level interrupts using a new flavor of MSIs, where the MSI controller uses two distinct messages: one that raises a virtual line, and one that lowers it. The target MSI controller is in charge of maintaining the state of the line. This allows for a much simplified HW signal routing (no need to have hundreds of discrete lines to signal level interrupts if you already have a memory bus), but results in a departure from the current idea the kernel has of MSIs. - Support for Meson-AXG GPIO irqchip - Large stm32 irqchip rework (suspend/resume, hierarchical domains) - More SPDX conversions * 'irq-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (36 commits) ARM: dts: stm32: Add exti support to stm32mp157 pinctrl ARM: dts: stm32: Add exti support for stm32mp157c pinctrl/stm32: Add irq_eoi for stm32gpio irqchip irqchip/stm32: Add suspend/resume support for hierarchy domain irqchip/stm32: Add stm32mp1 support with hierarchy domain irqchip/stm32: Prepare common functions irqchip/stm32: Add host and driver data structures irqchip/stm32: Add suspend support irqchip/stm32: Add falling pending register support irqchip/stm32: Checkpatch fix irqchip/stm32: Optimizes and cleans up stm32-exti irq_domain irqchip/meson-gpio: Add support for Meson-AXG SoCs dt-bindings: interrupt-controller: New binding for Meson-AXG SoC dt-bindings: interrupt-controller: Fix the double quotes softirq/s390: Move default mutators of overwritten softirq mask to s390 softirq/x86: Switch to generic local_softirq_pending() implementation softirq/sparc: Switch to generic local_softirq_pending() implementation softirq/powerpc: Switch to generic local_softirq_pending() implementation softirq/parisc: Switch to generic local_softirq_pending() implementation softirq/ia64: Switch to generic local_softirq_pending() implementation ...

There remains work to do on nds32, arc, unicore32, powerpc, arm, arm64, ia64 and x86 to get the code that generates siginfo into a simpler and more maintainable state. Most of that work involves refactoring the signal handling code and thus careful code review. Also not included is the work to shrink the in kernel version of struct siginfo. That depends on getting the number of places that directly manipulate struct siginfo under control, as it requires the introduction of struct kernel_siginfo for the in kernel things. 2018-06-01kbuild: add machine size to CHECKFLAGSLuc Van Oostenryck
By default, sparse assumes a 64bit machine when compiled on x86-64 and 32bit when compiled on anything else. This can of course create all sort of problems for the other archs, like issuing false warnings ('shift too big (32) for type unsigned long'), or worse, failing to emit legitimate warnings. Fix this by adding the -m32/-m64 flag, depending on CONFIG_64BIT, to CHECKFLAGS in the main Makefile (and so for all archs). Also, remove the now unneeded -m32/-m64 in arch specific Makefiles. 2018-05-29kconfig: reference environment variables directly and remove 'option env='Masahiro Yamada
To get access to environment variables, Kconfig needs to define a symbol using "option env=" syntax. It is tedious to add a symbol entry for each environment variable given that we need to define much more such as 'CC', 'AS', 'srctree' etc. to evaluate the compiler capability in Kconfig. Adding '$' for symbol references is grammatically inconsistent. Looking at the code, the symbols prefixed with 'S' are expanded by: - conf_expand_value() This is used to expand 'arch/$ARCH/defconfig' and 'defconfig_list' - sym_expand_string_value() This is used to expand strings in 'source' and 'mainmenu' All of them are fixed values independent of user configuration. So, they can be changed into the direct expansion instead of symbols. This change makes the code much cleaner. The bounce symbols 'SRCARCH', 'ARCH', 'SUBARCH', 'KERNELVERSION' are gone. sym_init() hard-coding 'UNAME_RELEASE' is also gone. 'UNAME_RELEASE' should be replaced with an environment variable. ARCH_DEFCONFIG is a normal symbol, so it should be simply referenced without '$' prefix. The new syntax is addicted by Make. The variable reference needs parentheses, like $(FOO), but you can omit them for single-letter variables, like $F. Yet, in Makefiles, people tend to use the parenthetical form for consistency / clarification. At this moment, only the environment variable is supported, but I will extend the concept of 'variable' later on. The variables are expanded in the lexer so we can simplify the token handling on the parser side. For example, the following code works. [Example code] config MY_TOOLCHAIN_LIST string default "My tools: CC=$(CC), AS=$(AS), CPP=$(CPP)" [Result] $ make -s alldefconfig && tail -n 1 .config CONFIG_MY_TOOLCHAIN_LIST="My tools: CC=gcc, AS=as, CPP=gcc -E" Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com> Reviewed-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org>

2018-05-08dma-debug: move initialization to common codeChristoph Hellwig
Most mainstream architectures are using 65536 entries, so lets stick to that. If someone is really desperate to override it that can still be done through <asm/dma-mapping.h>, but I'd rather see a really good rationale for that. dma_debug_init is now called as a core_initcall, which for many architectures means much earlier, and provides dma-debug functionality earlier in the boot process. This should be safe as it only relies on the memory allocator already being available. Simplify this process by using the helper force_sig_fault. 2018-04-25signal: Ensure every siginfo we send has all bits initializedEric W. Biederman
Call clear_siginfo to ensure every stack allocated siginfo is properly initialized before being passed to the signal sending functions. Note: It is not safe to depend on C initializers to initialize struct siginfo on the stack because C is allowed to skip holes when initializing a structure. The initialization of struct siginfo in tracehook_report_syscall_exit was moved from the helper user_single_step_siginfo into tracehook_report_syscall_exit itself, to make it clear that the local variable siginfo gets fully initialized. In a few cases the scope of struct siginfo has been reduced to make it clear that siginfo siginfo is not used on other paths in the function in which it is declared. Instances of using memset to initialize siginfo have been replaced with calls clear_siginfo for clarity. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. Biederman" <ebiederm@xmission.com>
2018-04-20y2038: sparc: Extend sysvipc data structuresArnd Bergmann
sparc, uses a nonstandard variation of the generic sysvipc data structures, intended to have the padding moved around so it can deal with big-endian 32-bit user space that has 64-bit time_t. Unlike most architectures, sparc actually succeeded in defining this right for big-endian CPUs, but as everyone else got it wrong, we just use the same hack everywhere. This takes just take the same approach here that we have for the asm-generic headers and adds separate 32-bit fields for the upper halves of the timestamps, to let libc deal with the mess in user space. 2018-04-19sparc: fix compat siginfo ABI regressionDmitry V. Levin
Starting with commit v4.14-rc1~60^2^2~1, a SIGFPE signal sent via kill results to wrong values in si_pid and si_uid fields of compat siginfo_t. This happens due to FPE_FIXME being defined to 0 for sparc, and at the same time siginfo_layout() introduced by the same commit returns SIL_FAULT for SIGFPE if si_code == SI_USER and FPE_FIXME is defined to 0. Fix this regression by removing FPE_FIXME macro and changing all its users to assign FPE_FLTUNK to si_code instead of FPE_FIXME. Note that FPE_FLTUNK is a new macro introduced by commit 266da65e9156d93e1126e185259a4aae68188d0e. Tested with commit v4.16-11958-g16e205cf42da. This bug was found by strace test suite. 2018-04-19compat: Move compat_timespec/ timeval to compat_time.hDeepa Dinamani
All the current architecture specific defines for these are the same. Refactor these common defines to a common header file. The new common linux/compat_time.h is also useful as it will eventually be used to hold all the defines that are needed for compat time types that support non y2038 safe types. New architectures need not have to define these new types as they will only use new y2038 safe syscalls. This file can be deleted after y2038 when we stop supporting non y2038 safe syscalls. The patch also requires an operation similar to: git grep "asm/compat\.h" | cut -d ":" -f 1 | xargs -n 1 sed -i -e "s%asm/compat.h%linux/compat.h%g" Cc: acme@kernel.org Cc: benh@kernel.crashing.org Cc: borntraeger@de.ibm.com Cc: catalin.marinas@arm.com Cc: cmetcalf@mellanox.com Cc: cohuck@redhat.com Cc: davem@davemloft.net Cc: deller@gmx.de Cc: devel@driverdev.osuosl.org Cc: gerald.schaefer@de.ibm.com Cc: gregkh@linuxfoundation.org Cc: heiko.carstens@de.ibm.com Cc: hoeppner@linux.vnet.ibm.com Cc: hpa@zytor.com Cc: jejb@parisc-linux.org Cc: jwi@linux.vnet.ibm.com Cc: linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org Cc: linux-mips@linux-mips.org Cc: linux-parisc@vger.kernel.org Cc: linuxppc-dev@lists.ozlabs.org Cc: linux-s390@vger.kernel.org Cc: mark.rutland@arm.com Cc: mingo@redhat.com Cc: mpe@ellerman.id.au Cc: oberpar@linux.vnet.ibm.com Cc: oprofile-list@lists.sf.net Cc: paulus@samba.org Cc: peterz@infradead.org Cc: ralf@linux-mips.org Cc: rostedt@goodmis.org Cc: rric@kernel.org Cc: schwidefsky@de.ibm.com Cc: sebott@linux.vnet.ibm.com Cc: sparclinux@vger.kernel.org Cc: sth@linux.vnet.ibm.com Cc: ubraun@linux.vnet.ibm.com Cc: will.deacon@arm.com Cc: x86@kernel.org Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Signed-off-by: Deepa Dinamani <deepa.kernel@gmail.com> Acked-by: Steven Rostedt (VMware) <rostedt@goodmis.org> Acked-by: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Acked-by: James Hogan <jhogan@kernel.org> Acked-by: Helge Deller <deller@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>

2018-04-16sparc/PCI: Request legacy VGA framebuffer only for VGA devicesBjorn Helgaas
Previously we unconditionally requested the legacy VGA framebuffer (bus address 0xa0000-0xbffff) before we even know what PCI devices are present, in these paths: pci_fire_pbm_init, schizo_pbm_init, pci_sun4v_pbm_init, psycho_pbm_init_common pci_determine_mem_io_space pci_register_legacy_regions p->start = mem_res->start + 0xa0000 request_resource(mem_res, p) # claim VGA framebuffer pci_scan_one_pbm pci_of_scan_bus # scan DT for PCI devices pci_claim_bus_resources # claim PCI device BARs If we found a PCI device with a BAR or bridge window that overlapped the framebuffer area, we complained about not being able to claim the BAR, e.g., pci 0000:00:01.0: can't claim BAR 8 [mem 0x1ff00000000-0x1ffbfffffff]: address conflict with Video RAM area [??? 0x1ff000a0000-0x1ff000bffff flags 0x80000000] pci 0000:02:01.0: can't claim BAR 8 [mem 0x1ff00100000-0x1ff028fffff]: no compatible bridge window pci 0000:03:0f.0: can't claim BAR 8 [mem 0x1ff00100000-0x1ff028fffff]: no compatible bridge window pci 0000:04:04.0: can't claim BAR 1 [mem 0x1ff02808000-0x1ff02808fff]: no compatible bridge window This may make the conflicting device unusable because we try not to enable devices that have unassigned or conflicting BARs, e.g., qla1280 0000:04:04.0: can't ioremap BAR 1: [mem size 0x00001000] qla1280: Unable to map I/O memory If there is no VGA device in the same PCI segment, there's no reason to reserve the framebuffer and there's no conflict. If there *is* a VGA device in the same segment, both the VGA device and the device with an overlapping BAR may respond to the framebuffer addresses, which may cause bus errors. Request the legacy framebuffer area only when we actually find a VGA device. The fact that VGA devices use the legacy framebuffer even though it's not reported in a BAR is not sparc-specific, so the reservation of that area could be made more generic in the PCI core eventually. Note that on some systems, e.g., Blade 100, we still report a conflict between an ISA bridge (00:07.0) and a VGA device (00:13.0): pci_bus 0000:00: root bus resource [mem 0x1ff00000000-0x1ffffffffff] (bus address [0x00000000-0xffffffff]) pci 0000:00:07.0: reg 0x14: [mem 0x1ff00000000-0x1ff000fffff] pci 0000:00:13.0: can't claim VGA legacy [mem 0x1ff000a0000-0x1ff000bffff]: address conflict with 0000:00:07.0 [mem 0x1ff00000000-0x1ff000fffff] This is probably harmless, but if the VGA device and something behind the ISA bridge both responded to reads of the framebuffer, it would cause a bus error.
