Simplify the patch compared to v1 as suggested by Bjørn Mork by taking advantage of the fact that existing devices work with sendsetup = true too. Use sendsetup = true for the NMEA interface of QCSERIAL_SWI and add DEVICE_SWI entries for the EM7565 PID 0x9091 and the EM7565 QDL PID 0x9090. Tests with several MC73xx/MC74xx/MC77xx devices have been performed in order to verify backward compatibility. 2017-11-04USB: serial: Remove redundant license textGreg Kroah-Hartman
Now that the SPDX tag is in all USB files, that identifies the license in a specific and legally-defined manner. So the extra GPL text wording can be removed as it is no longer needed at all. This is done on a quest to remove the 700+ different ways that files in the kernel describe the GPL license text. And there's unneeded stuff like the address (sometimes incorrect) for the FSF which is never needed. No copyright headers or other non-license-description text was removed. 2017-11-04USB: add SPDX identifiers to all remaining files in drivers/usb/Greg Kroah-Hartman
It's good to have SPDX identifiers in all files to make it easier to audit the kernel tree for correct licenses. Update the drivers/usb/ and include/linux/usb* files with the correct SPDX license identifier based on the license text in the file itself. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. 2017-06-13USB: serial: qcserial: expose methods for modem controlMagnus Lynch
The qcserial driver fails to expose the .tiocmget and .tiocmset methods available from usb_wwan. These methods are required by ioctl commands dealing with the modem control signals DTR, RTS, etc. With these methods not set ioctl calls intended to control the DTR state will fail. For example, pppd drops and raises DTR in preparation to dialing the modem, which handles the case of the modem already being connected by making it hang up and return to command mode. DTR control being unavailable will lead to a protracted failure to connect as the modem will be stuck in a state not responsive to command. I have tested that with this patch the described case is handled successfully. There is an analogous method for .ioctl available from usb_wwan (as used in option.c) but I conservatively omitted that for lack of familiarity. 2015-11-16USB: qcserial: Fix support for HP lt4112 LTE/HSPA+ Gobi 4G ModemBjørn Mork
The DEVICE_HWI type was added under the faulty assumption that Huawei devices based on Qualcomm chipsets and firmware use the static USB interface numbering known from Gobi devices. But this model does not apply to Huawei devices like the HP branded lt4112 (Huawei me906e). Huawei firmwares will dynamically assign interface numbers. Functions are renumbered when the firmware is reconfigured. Fix by changing the DEVICE_HWI type to use a simplified version of Huawei's subclass + protocol scheme: Blacklisting known network interface combinations and assuming the rest are serial. 2015-10-09USB: qcserial: make AT URCs work for Sierra Wireless devicesDavid Ward
Three Sierra Wireless modems have been found to require the CDC ACM SET_CONTROL_LINE_STATE request on the AT port in order to receive unsolicited response codes, most recently the Dell Wireless 5808e (which is a re-branded Sierra Wireless EM7355). On the other hand, the Sierra Wireless MC7710 does not seem to need this request, but it was found to work either way. Use this request on the AT port of devices with the Sierra Wireless layout in the qcserial driver. The other modems that were moved to the option driver to work around this can now be moved back. All the "non Gobi" Qualcomm based devices handled by this driver share a common standard Sierra Wireless specific layout. Adding code specifically for this layout allow us to reduce the number of match entries per device from three to one. This change will result in a penalty wrt stable backports, but simplifies new Sierra device addtitions in the long term. Fix port-data memory leak in usb-serial probe error path by moving port data allocation to port_probe. Since commit a1028f0abf ("usb: usb_wwan: replace release and disconnect with a port_remove hook") port data is deallocated in port_remove. This leaves a possibility for memory leaks if usb-serial probe fails after attach but before the port in question has been successfully registered. Note that this patch also fixes two additional memory leaks in the error path of attach should port initialisation fail for any port as the urbs were never freed and neither was the data of any of the successfully initialised ports. Bjorn's latest patchset does break Gobi 1K and 2K because on both devices as it claims usb interface 0. That's because usbif 0 is not handled in the switch statement, and thus the if0 gets claimed when it should not. So let's just make things even simpler yet, and handle both the 1K and 2K+ cases separately. This patch should not affect the new Sierra device support, because those devices are matched via interface-specific matching and thus should never hit the composite code. The QMI mode of the Sierra Wireless MC7710 is close to a Gobi device, and also identified as one by the Windows drivers provided by Sony. The serial interfaces are the same as for any other Gobi module, but the USB interface layout is different: 0: DM/DIAG (also present in bootloader mode) 2: NMEA 3: AT-capable modem port 8: QMI/net 19: QMI/net (not always present) 20: QMI/net (not always present) Note in particular that the NMEA and AT ports are reversed compared to a Gobi 2k+ device, and that the DM port appears as a QDL port in bootloader mode using the same device ID. The Sony driver also document two new devices with standard Gobi 2k+ layout (1199:68a5, 1199:68a9) having a QDL mode (1199:68a4, 1199:68a8). Adding these as well. Lenovo Windows drivers document the USB interface layout for a few additional Sierra Wireless devices.
