2022-10-04ceph: fail the open_by_handle_at() if the dentry is being unlinkedXiubo Li
When unlinking a file the kclient will send a unlink request to MDS by holding the dentry reference, and then the MDS will return 2 replies, which are unsafe reply and a deferred safe reply. After the unsafe reply received the kernel will return and succeed the unlink request to user space apps. Only when the safe reply received the dentry's reference will be released. Or the dentry will only be unhashed from dcache. But when the open_by_handle_at() begins to open the unlinked files it will succeed. The inode->i_count couldn't be used to check whether the inode is opened or not. 2021-11-08ceph: shut down access to inode when async create failsJeff Layton
Add proper error handling for when an async create fails. The inode never existed, so any dirty caps or data are now toast. We already d_drop the dentry in that case, but the now-stale inode may still be around. We want to shut down access to these inodes, and ensure that they can't harbor any more dirty data, which can cause problems at umount time. When this occurs, flag such inodes as being SHUTDOWN, and trash any caps and cap flushes that may be in flight for them, and invalidate the pagecache for the inode. Add a new helper that can check whether an inode or an entire mount is now shut down, and call it instead of accessing the mount_state directly in places where we test that now. 2021-06-29ceph: take reference to req->r_parent at point of assignmentJeff Layton
Currently, we set the r_parent pointer but then don't take a reference to it until we submit the request. If we end up freeing the req before that point, then we'll do a iput when we shouldn't. Instead, take the inode reference in the callers, so that it's always safe to call ceph_mdsc_put_request on the req, even before submission. 2019-05-07ceph: snapshot nfs re-exportYan, Zheng
To support snapshot nfs re-export, we need a way to lookup snapped inode by file handle. For directory inode, snapped metadata are always stored together with head inode. Client just need to pass vinodeno_t to MDS. For non-directory inode, there can be multiple version of snapped inodes and they can be stored in different dirfrags. Besides vinodeno_t, client also need to tell mds from which dirfrag it got the snapped inode. Another problem of supporting snapshot nfs re-export is that there can be multiple paths to access a snapped inode. For example: mkdir -p d1/d2/d3 mkdir d1/.snap/s1 Paths 'd1/.snap/s1/d2/d3', 'd1/d2/.snap/_s1_<inode number of d1>/d3' and 'd1/d2/d3/.snap/_s1_<inode number of d1>' are all reference to the same snapped inode. For a given snapped inode, There is no convenient way to get the first form and the second form paths. For simplicity, ceph_get_parent() return snapdir for snapped directory inode. Furthermore, client may access snapshot of deleted directory. For example: mkdir -p d1/d2 mkdir d1/.snap/s1 open d1/.snap/s1/d2 rm -rf d1/d2 <nfs server restart> The path constucted by ceph_get_parent() and ceph_get_name() is '<inode of d2>/.snap/_s1_<inode number of d1>'. Futher lookup parent of <inode of d2> will fail. To workaround this case, this patch uses d_obtain_root() to get dentry for snapdir of deleted directory. snapdir dentry has no DCACHE_DISCONNECTED flag set, reconnect_path() stops when it reaches snapdir dentry. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2017-06-14ceph: check i_nlink while converting a file handle to dentryLuis Henriques
Converting a file handle to a dentry can be done call after the inode unlink. This means that __fh_to_dentry() requires an extra check to verify the number of links is not 0. The issue can be easily reproduced using xfstest generic/426, which does something like: name_to_handle_at(&fh) echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches unlink() open_by_handle_at(&fh) The call to open_by_handle_at() should fail, as the file doesn't exist anymore. 2017-02-20ceph: add a new flag to indicate whether parent is lockedJeff Layton
struct ceph_mds_request has an r_locked_dir pointer, which is set to indicate the parent inode and that its i_rwsem is locked. In some critical places, we need to be able to indicate the parent inode to the request handling code, even when its i_rwsem may not be locked. Most of the code that operates on r_locked_dir doesn't require that the i_rwsem be locked. We only really need it to handle manipulation of the dcache. The rest (filling of the inode, updating dentry leases, etc.) already has its own locking. Add a new r_req_flags bit that indicates whether the parent is locked when doing the request, and rename the pointer to "r_parent". For now, all the places that set r_parent also set this flag, but that will change in a later patch. 2016-03-25ceph: fix security xattr deadlockYan, Zheng
When security is enabled, security module can call filesystem's getxattr/setxattr callbacks during d_instantiate(). For cephfs, d_instantiate() is usually called by MDS' dispatch thread, while handling MDS reply. If the MDS reply does not include xattrs and corresponding caps, getxattr/setxattr need to send a new request to MDS and waits for the reply. This makes MDS' dispatch sleep, nobody handles later MDS replies. The fix is make sure lookup/atomic_open reply include xattrs and corresponding caps. So getxattr can be handled by cached xattrs. This requires some modification to both MDS and request message. (Client tells MDS what caps it wants; MDS encodes proper caps in the reply) Smack security module may call setxattr during d_instantiate(). Unlike getxattr, we can't force MDS to issue CEPH_CAP_XATTR_EXCL to us. So just make setxattr return error when called by MDS' dispatch thread. Signed-off-by: Yan, Zheng <zyan@redhat.com>

2010-10-20ceph: factor out libceph from Ceph file systemYehuda Sadeh
This factors out protocol and low-level storage parts of ceph into a separate libceph module living in net/ceph and include/linux/ceph. This is mostly a matter of moving files around. However, a few key pieces of the interface change as well: - ceph_client becomes ceph_fs_client and ceph_client, where the latter captures the mon and osd clients, and the fs_client gets the mds client and file system specific pieces. - Mount option parsing and debugfs setup is correspondingly broken into two pieces. - The mon client gets a generic handler callback for otherwise unknown messages (mds map, in this case). - The basic supported/required feature bits can be expanded (and are by ceph_fs_client). No functional change, aside from some subtle error handling cases that got cleaned up in the refactoring process. Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net>
2010-10-07ceph: Update max_len with minimum required sizeAneesh Kumar K.V
encode_fh on error should update max_len with minimum required size, so that caller can redo the call with the reallocated buffer. This is required with open by handle patch series Signed-off-by: Aneesh Kumar K.V <aneesh.kumar@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net>
2010-10-07ceph: Fix return value of encode_fh functionAneesh Kumar K.V
encode_fh function should return 255 on error as done by other file system to indicate EOVERFLOW. Also max_len is in sizeof(u32) units and not in bytes. Signed-off-by: Aneesh Kumar K.V <aneesh.kumar@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net>
2010-05-29fs/ceph: Use ERR_CASTJulia Lawall
Use ERR_CAST(x) rather than ERR_PTR(PTR_ERR(x)). The former makes more clear what is the purpose of the operation, which otherwise looks like a no-op. In the case of fs/ceph/inode.c, ERR_CAST is not needed, because the type of the returned value is the same as the type of the enclosing function. The semantic patch that makes this change is as follows: (http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/) // <smpl> @@ type T; T x; identifier f; @@ T f (...) { <+... - ERR_PTR(PTR_ERR(x)) + x ...+> } @@ expression x; @@ - ERR_PTR(PTR_ERR(x)) + ERR_CAST(x) // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk> Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net>

2010-05-17ceph: use ceph_sb_to_client instead of ceph_clientCheng Renquan
ceph_sb_to_client and ceph_client are really identical, we need to dump one; while function ceph_client is confusing with "struct ceph_client", ceph_sb_to_client's definition is more clear; so we'd better switch all call to ceph_sb_to_client. -static inline struct ceph_client *ceph_client(struct super_block *sb) -{ - return sb->s_fs_info; -} Signed-off-by: Cheng Renquan <crquan@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net>
2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-10-06ceph: nfs re-export supportSage Weil
Basic NFS re-export support is included. This mostly works. However, Ceph's MDS design precludes the ability to generate a (small) filehandle that will be valid forever, so this is of limited utility. Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net>
